School curriculum periodically reviewed based on needs, says minister

The curriculum content for all levels of education institutions are periodically re-assessed based on current needs.

This was said by Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman in response to a query by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Putera Maharaja Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghani bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Rahim during the fourth day of deliberations at the 18th LegCo meeting yesterday.

The LegCo member also inquired if subjects, such as science and social sciences, are being reviewed, and if the assessment also include references from Al-Quran and Hadith as main sources, to align it better with the country’s philosophy, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), and to realise Brunei Vision 2035 aspirations.

The minister shared an example for science subjects that is being reviewed periodically, based on change of times.

On the suggestion for reviews to align with Al-Quran and Hadith, the minister said it will be considered in the formation of committee of curriculum review in the subjects.

“The Ministry of Education will continuously review the curriculum and empower officers involved in the review to ensure that the work is seamlessly implemented,” the minister added.
