School clerk drives home grand prize of brand new car

Clerk at the Ministry of Education Soudah binti Haji Mahadi could not believe her luck when she unlocked the five padlocks to drive home a brand new Lexus LBX Hybrid, the grand prize of the BIBD Mega Karnival.

“Watching programmes such as X-Factor actually triggered my strategy on how I would go through the process of unlocking the five padlocks in the shortest time required to be determined as the owner of the Lexus. Once I understood the game, I relaxed myself and opted for a trial and error method, which actually worked,” she said.

Soudah, who works at the Panaga Primary School, was surprised when she reached the final round.

Overwhelmed with emotions, she held back her tears, believing it was a blessing at the start of her new year. Even if she hadn’t won the grand prize, being one of the six finalists was already a blessing.

She expressed gratitude to her colleagues, including the school headmaster, who allowed her to leave early to make it to the event on time. “I participated in applying for a credit card during the carnival and Alhamdulillah, it was worth the application. I hope Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) continues holding these events, perhaps quarterly on a smaller scale and a grand one annually, giving others a chance to be lucky.”

Soudah applauded BIBD’s initiative, noting the rarity of such events with amazing prizes in Brunei. A loyal customer since she started working, she appreciated BIBD’s efficient services.

Meanwhile, military personnel at the Royal Brunei Air Force Kamarul Hamsah bin Mohd Yussof from Kampong Tanah Jambu also competed in the final round.

“It was a nerve-wrecking moment. When I was briefed on how one of us will be determined as the one driving home the Lexus LBX Hybrid, I could not get myself to think of a strategy of unlocking the padlocks. I reminded myself that if it is my rezeki, it will be and whatever prize I will win, I’ll still be happy as it is still a big prize.”

A loyal customer for over 10 years, Kamarul who won an LG Bundle package worth BND8,000, had participated in the personal financing to be eligible in the draw.

The drawing and presentation of prizes was held by BIBD at Lexus Showroom in Gadong yesterday with the highlight being the announcement of the winner of the grand prize, alongside the top five prizes. BIBD Deputy Managing Director II Irwan bin Haji Lamit presented the prizes.

The campaign, initially launched during the BIBD Mega Karnival and extended due to overwhelming public response, offered more participants a chance to win prizes.

Other top prizes include an Apple Bundle worth BND7,000 won by Sadiah binti Murni, Dyson Bundle worth BND5,000 won by Ramlee bin Haji Hassan, Samsung Bundle worth BND4,200 won by Dayangku Nurul Hismah binti Pengiran Yusof @ Dayangku Maimunah and KitchenAid Bundle worth BND2,000 won by Mohammad Khairul Hisyamuddin bin Haji Kamransal.
