School celebrates traditions and culture

Some 462 children from Taman Asuhan Kanak-Kanak Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (TASKA YSHHB) learnt about Brunei’s tradition and culture during the Hari Budaya Brunei celebration yesterday in conjunction with the second school term.

Children and teachers were dressed in costumes representing local fruits, desserts, cakes and traditions.

Parent Teachers Association Chairperson Kartika binti Haji Abdul Rahman, as the guest of honour, launched the celebration. TASKA YSHHB Acting Principal Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi was also present.

Students sang religious songs including nasyid bulan-bulan Hijrah, introduced the many traditional cakes and fruits as well as recited poems on Brunei Vision 2035.

The event also featured traditional games such as congkak, play gatah, simban and ting-ting, as well as demonstrations on how to make dastar and kikik and prepare local cuisines. – James Kon
