Some 36 youth from across Belait and Tutong districts experienced scenic views as they trekked through the lush rainforest as part of the Jejak Wasai week held last Saturday.

The group, comprising students from government and private schools as well as youth associations and communities based in Belait and Tutong districts, began their trek from the Teraja Longhouse.

The visit aimed to provide opportunities for the participants to explore the locales that play a vital role in the well-being of the nation, focusing on the rural areas of Belait District and the biodiversity therein.

Their itinerary included visiting the Nadi Borneo, or Heart of Borneo, which is an international initiative aimed at preserving and protecting the forested areas of Borneo.

The participants also viewed the various flora and fauna up close and personal, and took a guided visit to the Wasai Teraja which is an hour’s trek from the longhouse.

The Youth Development Unit of the Belait District Youth and Sports Department, who organised the visit, noted that the association has plans to conduct similar visits to help further develop and nurture the youth of the district. – Daniel Lim
