The Green Protocol initiative aims to help promote sustainable living in an effort to reduce the country’s carbon footprint, said Academic Manager of Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Sultan Bolkiah Campus (SBC) Mohd Zainor bin Haji Zainal.
“This year, IBTE Sultan Bolkiah Campus was able to work together with Green Brunei and Mitsubishi Corporation to conduct a tree planting campaign across the campus. It is hoped to raise awareness and instil a better understanding on how to care for the environment as a shared responsibility for all,” he said during the campus’ Tree Planting Campaign in conjunction with the Green Protocol and Day of Action yesterday.
Some 22 saplings were planted at the surrounding premise of the IBTE SBC.
Chief Executive Officer of IBTE Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli was present, joined by Legislative Council member and co-founder of Green Brunei Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari and Assistant Manager in Business Relations for Mitsubishi Corporation Brunei Liaison Office Hajah Rohayati binti Haji Damit.
Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa said the saplings were contributed by Mitsubishi Corporation Brunei Liaison Office as part of the Environment Education Tour Project.
This project, which aimed at raising public awareness on climate change issues, saw over 1,590 saplings distributed to the public including 50 saplings planted at the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) Tang Salangan Farm.
The campaign also aimed to spruce up the campus surrounding, while helping to offset the carbon footprint of the campus.
