Sacrificial worship develops empathy, say Imams

Azlan Othman

Muslims are urged to perform sacrificial worship in the Islamic month of Zulhijjah where all Muslims will celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Imams highlighted in yesterday’s Friday sermon that the act of the sacrificial worship is a Sunnat Muakkadah and one would deem to develop praiseworthy attributes and have noble Islamic values.

They also said that a majority of Islamic scholars consider the worship to be a Sunnah by following Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) traditions. The imams said that the blood from the sacrifice spilling on earth will have an honourable place in the sight of Allah the Almighty.

The time for sacrificial worship is after sunrise on Hari Raya Aidiladha, which is after the completion of the Sunnat (supererogatory) Aidiladha prayers on 10th of Zulhijjah, until sunset on the last day of Tasyrik on 13th of Zulhijjah.

Commendable attributes that may be formed during the sacrificial worship will teach compassion and develop a charitable attitude towards the underprivileged as well as being patient when facing a test in life, they said.
