Sacrifices remembered on Victory Day

The Embassy of Russia in Brunei Darussalam commemorated the country’s 79th anniversary of Victory Day with a ceremony attended by guests including members of the diplomatic corps at the chancery in Kampong Manggis on Thursday.

Russian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mikhail Valdimirovich Baranov in his welcoming remarks shared that Victory Day in Russia has become a family celebration as there are scarcely any families not affected by the war.

As they commemorate Victory Day, they are “reminded of the sacrifices endured by more than 27 million Soviet citizens who defended their homeland for a gruelling four years”.

“Their courage, resilience, and unwavering determination in the face of unspeakable atrocities stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of the human soul, capacity for resilience in the face of unimaginable a dversity.”

He was also reminded on the significance of cooperation in addressing global challenges and reaffirmed commitment to multilateralism and dialogue towards a peaceful and prosperous world.

Guests also viewed photos of the embassy officials’ relatives who fought during that war, displayed in a mini photo exhibition. – Lyna Mohamad
