Sabah to complete Pan Borneo Highway Phase 1 by 2029

KOTA KINABALU (BERNAMA) – Sabahans can look forward to enjoying Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah, stretching over 706 kilometres, once it is fully completed by 2029.

Head of State Tun Musa Aman, in his policy address at the State Legislative Assembly yesterday said the project will be expedited to completion within four years as part of efforts to spur economic growth through infrastructure and utility upgrades.

He said the State Government is also strengthening water supply management, including the Ulu Padas Water Supply Scheme integrated with the Upper Padas Hydroelectric Project, to meet the long-term needs of the West Coast.

On electricity, Musa said fast-track works, such as substation upgrades in Lahad Datu and Tawau, are underway to increase Sabah’s power reserve margin to 29 per cent by year-end.

He added that Sabah is targeting a 50 per cent renewable energy mix by 2035, with hydro, solar, geothermal, and other sources under the Energy Transition Agenda towards carbon neutrality by 2050.
