MIAMI (AFP) – Two-time Olympic gold medallist Ryan Crouser set a new shot put world record of 23.38 metres (m) at the Simplot Games in Idaho on Saturday.
The throw, at the indoor meet, beat his previous world record of 23.37, set outdoors, and also his world indoor best of 22.82m.
The record throw comes a year after Crouser, gold medallist in the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, had a throw of an identical distance annulled. He thought he had broken the record last January at the Millrose Games but a faulty laser measurement device meant that the competition was cancelled.
Crouser set his world indoor mark of 22.82m in January 2021 at Fayetteville, Arkansas, and his world outdoor record of 23.37m in June that year, at Eugene, Oregon.
