Local runner Ruzaini Mahadi made back-to-back wins in running meets after adding the 10-kilometre (km) Power Run Men’s Open of the Guardian Fun Run 2023 Brunei Edition to his collection of domestic honours at the Taman Sir Haji Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday.

The long distance runner enjoyed a victory in consecutive weekends after edging rival Muhammad Haziq Syazwan Hermanti by 0.01 seconds (s).

Ruzaini, who clocked a time of 33.57s to win the title, said in an interview with the Bulletin, “Honestly, I realise winning doesn’t always mean getting first place, it’s the effort that matters and also getting the best out of myself.”

He further added, “There is no specific running programme that I follow, but running everyday and having a good recovery does help me a lot to maintain my fitness.

“My plan is to keep up with my running routine as usual. And hopefully, I will be able to take part in any distance running event locally and also outside Brunei.”

Amirul Hamdi Jamil completed the podium in third place after registering a time of 34.52s.

Meanwhile, Shazana Hamiroldzam emerged victorious in the 10km Power Run Women’s Open after clocking a time of 45.00s.

Amirah Zaini took the first runners-up spot with a time of 45.40s while Husna binti Abdullah came third with a time of 52.25s.

Guardian Brunei General Manager Jennifer Yang presented the prizes to the winners.
