The Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a Bangladeshi national to six months’ jail with three whippings after he pleaded guilty to overstaying for just over two years from the expiry of his employment pass.
Immigration prosecutor Hadiyatul Majeedah binti Awang Usin informed the court that the defendant, 31-year-old Md Golam Rabbani, was arrested at 9.11am on September 7 at the Immigration and National Registration Department office when the defendant sought repatriation.
The defendant’s case was handed over to enforcement officials to find that he had fled from his employer, who filed a report on June 29, 2021.
The defendant’s employment pass was found to be valid until July 21, 2021.
