His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined his subjects at the Sunnat Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayer at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital on Saturday.
His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The royal entourage was welcomed on arrival by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof.
The Sunnat Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayer was led by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan delivered the first sermon highlighting that visiting one another during the festive season is a good practice and permitted in Islam, and that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) recommended visits and honour guests where forgiving and seeking forgiveness are encouraged.
The second sermon reminded Muslims of six days of fasting during Syawal which offer rewards equivalent to fasting throughout the year.
The faithful were also reminded to avoid overspending and overburdening themselves during Hari Raya.
