His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the Sovereign’s Parade ceremony for the 21st intake of officer cadets of the Officer Cadet School yesterday.
His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness 920 Major (U) Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The monarch was greeted on arrival at Defence Academy Royal Brunei Armed Forces (DA RBAF) by Deputy Minister of Defence Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abd Kadir and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan.
The event began with His Majesty receiving the royal salute and inspected the parade commanded by 1273 Captain (U) Muhd Shah Redzuan bin Haji Mat Serudin followed with a march-past by the officer cadets.
The monarch delivered a titah and the ceremony continued with an award presentation to the best officer cadets of the 21st intake.
The passing out parade saw 64 officer cadets, comprising 45 males and 19 females. Some 31 officer cadets were commissioned as Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) officers, 14 as Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) officers and 19 as Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) officers.
His Majesty presented the Sword of Honour to Officer Cadet Awang Muhd Asyraf bin Haji Awang Amin. It is the highest award bestowed by the monarch to an officer cadet for highest overall achievements in basic military training, academic and physical prowess, training and leadership.
His Majesty then presented the Best Academic Award to Midshipman Wan Afifi bin Wan Ali, RBN for his academic achievements.
The Best Military Skills Award was granted to Officer Cadet Mohammad Norhafiz bin Mohd Sani in recognition of his military skills.
Officer Cadet (U) Haji Mohammad Nasrullah bin Haji Mohammad Hidin was awarded Best in Physical Training Award for his achievement in physical training.
‘Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik’ was called out three times followed by a Doa read by Acting Director of RBAF Religious Directorate (JAMA’AT) Commander Haji Ainolnizam bin Haji Ibrahim, RBN.
The monarch then received a pesambah of nahwa attafawuq, which means ‘towards excellence’, from the officer cadets.
The event continued with a junjung ziarah, or get-together, with the newly-commissioned officer cadets and their families.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo session.
The Sovereign’s Parade is the culmination of the RBAF Officer Cadet School’s military training aimed at equipping newly-commissioned officers with knowledge, faith, discipline, professionalism and leadership skills. The commissioned officers attended a 48-week course ,which began on February 14, 2022.
