His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam yesterday morning attended the coronation ceremony of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia at the Balairung Seri, Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty were members of the royal family.
On arrival at the Istana Negara, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty were greeted by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and spouse Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty also received the salute of honour, accompanied by the Brunei national anthem.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty then proceeded to the Balairung Seri to attend the coronation ceremony, which was also attended by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain; Their Royal Highnesses the Raja-Raja and the Raja-Raja Permaisuri; Yang Di-Pertua Negeri and Toh Puan-Toh Puan; and Senior Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong.
The coronation ceremony commenced with the arrival of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia at the Balairung Seri, accompanied by the playing of the Royal Ensemble (Nobat) Raja Berangkat.
During the coronation ceremony, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim received Al-Quran and the Keris Panjang Diraja (the Royal Long Keris) as a symbol of power and authority, which were presented by the Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy bin Zairakithnaini.
The proclamation of the coronation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim was read by the Malaysian prime minister to ascend the throne as the Malaysian head of state.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim then delivered a titah.
The coronation ceremony concluded with a Doa Selamat which was recited by Istana Negara religious officer Datuk Haji Munir bin Haji Md Salleh.
Prior to leaving the Istana Negara, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri joined a group photograph session with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah.
The presence of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri to the historic ceremony reflects the close and special relationship between the royal families and peoples of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
The long-established relations are also of significant historic importance, based on the principles of Islamic teachings, economy and politics.
On October 27, 2023, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, Sultan and Sovereign Ruler of the State and Territory of Johor Darul Ta’zim was elected by the Malay Rulers at the 263rd Special Meeting of the Conference of Rulers to ascend the throne of the federal government for a period of five years.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim was sworn-in as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the ceremony of taking the oath of office and signing the instrument of office on January 31, 2024, and subsequently was officially declared as His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
