Royalty grace 12th Convocation Ceremony of Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, graced the 12th Convocation Ceremony of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

The event was held at the Main Conference Hall, International Convention Centre, Berakas on Thursday.

Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was welcomed by Minister of Religious Affairs and Chairman of the Institute’s Board of Governors Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman; Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar; Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and Chairman of the Institute’s Supreme Committee Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan; and Acting Principal of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Ustaz Mohammad Ali Sabri bin Haji Yusof.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of verses from Surah Al-Balad, Ayat 1 to Ayat 20, narrated by Al-Bazzi from Ibnu Kathir, delivered by Awadah binti Mohamad Ariffin, followed by a summary of the verses read by Nurqamariah binti Kepli.

The Minister of Religious Affairs then delivered a welcoming speech.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince delivered a sabda and subsequently presented the ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma certificates to 20 graduates, comprising 15 male and 5 female students from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute. Among the recipients, 11 graduated with Mumtaz (Excellent), 6 with Jayyid Jiddan (Very Good), one with Jayyid (Good), and two with Maqbul (Pass) grades.

Following the diploma presentation, a speech on behalf of the graduates was delivered by Nurmazrina binti Abdul Mahmod.

The event proceeded with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar by the first-year students of the ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma program.

The convocation ceremony is held to celebrate the graduates of the ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma and to recognise their excellence in the field of Quran memorisation and Qira’at sciences, in line with the vision of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to be a leading institution for Tahfiz and Quranic studies at the national, regional, and international levels.

The establishment of the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah was initiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izaddin Waddaulah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with His Majesty’s 46th birthday on July 15, 1992.

Officially established on January 1, 1993, the institute began with an initial intake of students.

The institute offers secondary and diploma-level Quranic studies, integrating Quran memorisation with other Quranic sciences and subjects. In August 2010, the institute further expanded with the launch of the ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma program. From 2014 to the present, the institute has produced 242 graduates from the program. – FADLEY FAISAL
