Royal wedding grabs world media attention

The royal wedding between His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and Yang Mulia Dayang Anisha Rosnah binti Adam has attracted media attention worldwide, ranging from TIME magazine to Britain’s The Times and Daily Mail, fashion and lifestyle magazine Tatler, celebrity news and human interest magazine People, India’s Hindustan Times, Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post and other regional newspapers and magazines.

The ceremony, with pageantry and pomp, will hit its fever pitch today with Majlis Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja, followed by the Royal Procession in the capital where thousands of Bruneians, including public servants and students, will line the streets to see the newly-wed.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen’s Instagram account, which has 2.5 million followers, has been flooded with comments praising the royal extravaganza.

Majlis Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja for His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and Yang Mulia Dayang Anisha Rosnah on Wednesday night alone drew over 10,000 comments, while a pre-wedding photo of the royal couple posted on Instagram on December 31 drew more than 11,000 comments.

“Congrats! Lovely couple,” said Debbie Chan, while Nanama and Neissya said it was a heartbreaking moment for them.

Others prayed for an ever-lasting marriage with abundant blessings, hailed the Sultanate’s royal wedding ceremony as being rich in tradition and culture, while admiring the array of wedding attire worn by the royal couple.

Pakistan’s GEO TV highlighted His Royal Highness’ growing role in international diplomacy, accompanying his father, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to significant events such as the funeral of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II as well as the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Meanwhile, the Sunday Bulletin yesterday canvassed the route for the Royal Procession and found workers from the Public Works Department and the Municipal Department covering the drains with tarps and cleaning the streets along the route.

Colourful arches, mini tents and decorative flags have also been installed to greet the much-anticipated event. – Azlan Othman
