Brunei Darussalam’s giant-sized national flag was officially lowered yesterday to mark the conclusion of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 77th birthday celebration.
In the Brunei-Muara District, the event was held at the open area of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex, overseen by Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Paduka Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos. The giant flag was lowered by Royal Brunei Navy personnel, witnessed by members of the National Committee for the royal birthday celebration including permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments and senior officials from public and private sectors.
A similar event was also held at the Tutong District Civic Centre Complex yesterday.
Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Ideni bin Haji Ahmad attended as the guest of honour, alongside Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub, senior government officials, mukim penghulu, village heads and acting village heads in the district. The flag was lowered by Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel.
Meanwhile, the ceremony at the Menara Cendera Kenangan in the Belait District was joined by Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad. The flag was lowered by RBPF personnel and handed over to the acting district officer.
LegCo members Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman and Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann, mukim penghulu and village heads, as well as representatives of groups and agencies from across Belait also participated in the event.
Yesterday also marked the end of flag-flying at public and private premises, across the country. – James Kon, Rokiah Mahmud & Daniel Lim
