Royal Bees achieve record point tally against Iraq in ANC

The Brunei Darussalam national netball team broke the century mark barrier for the first time in a single game following a 106-14 victory over Iraq in the 13th Asian Netball Championships (ANC) at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India yesterday.

The national netball team, known as the Royal Bees, were in dominant form since taking the first quarter 27-5.

They continued their momentum and nearly doubled their point tally in the second quarter as they raced to a comfortable 52-10 lead.

The Royal Bees, eager to bounce back after the loss to heavily-fancied Singapore in their last outing, limited their opponents to just two baskets in the third quarter after taking a 74-12 lead.

Brunei, who picked up their second win of the campaign, entered the fourth quarter with history in their sights as they surpassed the 100-point mark with nearly three minutes of the clock remaining.

It was fitting that their most potent goal-scorer Nur Hafizah Sidek who converted the country’s century mark.

The victory eclipsed their previous highest point tally during a 91-13 victory over Pakistan in 2012. Despite the heavy defeat, Iraq made history after achieving their highest point tally in a single game in their maiden appearance in the ANC.
