The Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan (RCBSB) celebrated its 58th anniversary with a grand dinner reception at Mulia Hotel yesterday.
District governor Dr John Chan was the guest of honour.
RCBSB President Daniel Thien said, “Rotary International has always stood for the values of service, fellowship, and goodwill.
“It is a global network of passionate individuals, like yourselves, who believe in the power of positive change. Today, we come together not as strangers but as friends united by a common purpose, a shared vision for a better world.”
He added, “Your presence here serves as a reminder that our mission knows no borders.
“We are bound by the belief that, regardless of where we are from, we have a collective responsibility to address the critical issues of our time – be it eradicating disease, promoting education, alleviating poverty, or fostering peace.
“By collaborating across continents, cultures, and languages, we multiply the impact of our efforts.”
While dedicated to ‘Service Above Self’, he said, “we also understand the importance of sharing a good laugh as we work together to create hope in the world.”
He added, “Let’s continue to serve with a smile, knowing that even in the most challenging times, a good sense of humour can be the secret ingredient that makes our service effortsM truly outstanding.”
Dr John Chan meanwhile paid tribute to RCBSB’s role in providing service to the community in need.
“As Rotarians, we see things differently. We see the beauty in every individual, even in the most challenging circumstances. We see the potential for positive change in the world,” he said.
He added, “Rotary is the lens through which we view the world with compassion and a determination to make a difference.
“It offers us the opportunity to join forces, coming together to create lasting change, not only in far-off corners of the globe but also in our local communities and within ourselves.”
He also said, “One of the most remarkable aspects of Rotary is the friendships it fosters.
Rotary brings together people from diverse backgrounds, uniting us in a common mission.
“As we work together to address pressing issues and make a meaningful impact, we form bonds that endure a lifetime.
“These connections are not just about shared goals; they are about shared values, dreams and humanity.
