Members of the Chinese community in the country ushered in the Chinese New Year with a lion dance performance at the Teng Yun Chinese Temple at the capital early Wednesday morning.
The lion dance, performed by the Brunei Xuan Long Sports Association, was accompanied by the beating of the drum and performers showcasing a combination of balance, strength and agility on multiple platforms.
Scores of people assembled at the venue as early as 7am to witness the symbolic occasion.
The event also drew attention from curious onlookers as dozens watched the proceedings unfold along the vicinity of the temple.
Inside, excited children and adults alike had an opportunity to pat the lion’s face as participants made their way through the crowd.
During the event, a dragon dance was also showcased following a ball-shaped object.
The Year of the Snake is observed this year with more celebrations set to sweep the country in the coming days. – Fadhil Yunus
