Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) and the Ministry of Health (MoH), with the support of Kolej International Graduates Studies (KIGS), conducted a mental health roadshow at KIGS Business Marketing Communication Centre (BMCC) in Kiulap.
Dean of the Faculty of Education at KUPUSB Dr Hajah Norwati binti Haji Abu Bakar said the objective of the roadshow was to share information strategies to maintain mental health in the daily life.
The event also aimed to raise awareness, especially among students in higher learning institutions, on the importance of mental health based on Al-Qur’an and As-Sunnah.
She added that the roadshow was one of the efforts of KUPUSB and the MoH to spread knowledge and skills needed to help the community to achieve resilience from both the health and Islamic perspective.
The roadshow, she said, aligned with the Brunei Darussalam Mental Health Action Plan 2022-2025, to strengthen mental health promotion in educational institutions, workplaces, and society.
A religious talk titled ‘Mental Sejahtera: Kunci Kejayaan Generasi Hebat’ was delivered by Senior Assistant Professor at the Jawi and Kitab Turath Research Studies Centre at KUPU SB Dr Harapandi Dahri. The roadshow offered information on mental health from an Islamic perspective, such as prayers, appreciation in Zikir and mental well-being in family institution. There were also activities such as deep breathing relaxation techniques, grounding techniques, prayer therapy for visitors with sessions covering topics like psychological first aid, mental health human rights, soul cleansing and coping strategies.
The event was attended by KUPU SB Rae’s Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Management) at the MoH Dr Hajah Anie Haryani binti Haji Abdul Rahman. – Lyna Mohamad
