Roads damaged by transports overloaded with heavy logs are repaired at the logging company’s expense, said Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session.
LegCo member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub noted that there were some roads that had been damaged from the transportation of logs, where trucks were alleged to have been carrying over the limits of established guidelines.
In his reply, the minister said that the Forestry Department patrols the logging areas from time to time to ensure that the logging trucks do not carry loads over the limit.
“If there are any violations of the law, action will be taken,” he said.
Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf noted that the Forestry Department has emphasised to each logging company that it is their corporate social responsibility to repair roads damaged by logging transports. “This has received support and cooperation from the logging companies,” said the minister.
“For example, in 2019 to 2021, companies helped in the repair of damaged roads at their own expense,” he said.
