Irwan bin Haji Abdul Hamid walked away with the trophy in the 33rd Pantai Mentiri Golf Club Amateur Open at Pantai Mentiri Golf Club yesterday, which saw some 74 participants.
The rising star outplayed defending champion Awangku Muhammad Syakir bin Pengiran Alli, finishing with 214 holes, eight ahead of Bryan Chiew in second place.
Awangku Muhammad Syakir settled for third place with a score of 226 points. Irwan, following his Baiduri Masters victory, shot a two-over 74 in the final round.
Other notable finishers in the top 10 included Tony Haji Karim and Qawi Aslimon in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
In the ladies’ event, Agnes De La Cruz clinched victory with a cumulative score of 243 points.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented the prizes. – Fadhil Yunus
