A cultural research methodology workshop, organised by the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), through its Research, Documentation and Recognition Division, continued in the Belait District yesterday.
The workshop at DBP Kampong Pandan Library drew 40 participants.
They were introduced to research methodologies and proposal drafting to start a study. They were then split into groups where the participants interviewed people about their cultures.
Muhd Firdaus bin Abdul Sani from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) said the workshop exposed the participants to the unique culture in each district.
“It is exciting to speak to people and gain deep knowledge and understanding of the culture in each district. It allows us to understand culture first-hand rather than through books and pictures.”
Farahaina binti Anchong, who just started work at the Brunei History Centre said the workshop allowed the Sultanate’s culture to be recorded and passed down to the younger generation.
“I hope more similar workshops will be held as they provide participants a chance to speak with culture experts who can provide us with first-hand experience on how culture develops and is passed down for generations.”
