Research centre celebrates six years with plant-themed events

The Universiti Brunei Darussalam Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC) marked its sixth anniversary with a series of activities focusing on plants at its campus recently.

Visitors were treated to nature walks, plant pop-up sales, botanical art exhibitions and interactive workshops at UBD BRC’s garden.

Two garden workshops were held, attended by officers from the Forestry Department and of Agriculture and Agrifood Department and the public.

UBD BRC assistant curators and botanists Soon Boon Yu facilitated the ‘Ornamental Plants Pruning and Care’ workshop while Mohammad Amiruddin Ruslan facilitated the ‘Ornamental Plant Propagation’ workshop.

An Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER) Seminar Series was also held. Senior forestry officer and Head of the Heart of Borneo Centre at the Forestry Department Zaeidi bin Haji Berudin highlighted the value of Brunei’s forests from environmental, social and economic perspectives.

Meanwhile, IBER Associate Professor Dr Rahayu Sukri shared the centre’s research projects, education programmes and conservation initiatives.
