A concerted effort from members of several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), government agencies and the public managed to save the life of a kogia species marine mammal stranded at a beach in Belait District yesterday morning.
PawsUp Founder Jay Lau said he saw a post on Facebook where a marine mammal was stranded at the beach area in the Belait District.
Members of PawsUp, Reef Check Brunei, Fire and Rescue Department, Department of Fisheries, Panaga Divers PSAC as well as public volunteers helped save the marine mammal.
Lau said, “We gave some basic painkiller and vitamin to help the marine mammal gain strength. We then slowly pushed it to the sea.”
“The marine mammal struggled but she slowly made her way back with escort from Panaga Divers PSAC,” he added. – James Kon
