Replacement of carers allowed at hospital

Replacement carers are allowed to tend to patients at government hospitals following the Ministry of Health’s update on the policy for visitors.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the daily press conference yesterday, who added that only one caregiver was previously allowed during a patient’s stay at the hospital.

The minister added that carers are still allowed, provided they produce a negative antigen rapid test (ART) result, and they no longer need to be quarantined for long.

Giving an example, Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said one person can care for a patient from 8am to 8pm and a replacement carer can come to look after the patient from 8pm to 8am the next day, provided they produce negative ART results.

Husbands are now allowed to accompany their pregnant wives to the labour room, on the condition that the husbands test negative for COVID.

The minister also reminded the public that the two-visitor limit is allowed during one visiting period only. “During the afternoon visiting period, only two people with negative ART results are allowed,” said the minister, adding that there is still a limit to the number of visitors.
