A handover ceremony to mark the completion of a newly-repaired wooden boardwalk in Kampong Setia ‘A’, Zone 2 was held yesterday.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman officiated the ceremony.
Accompanying the minister were Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru and Mitsubishi Corporation Country Representative (Brunei Liaison Office) Tadashi Hara.
Tadashi Hara, in a speech, said, “This year, we have repaired one of the boardwalks measuring 132 metres at Kampong Setia ‘A’, Zone 2 in collaboration with Green Brunei and support from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Brunei-Muara District Office.”
He added, “By repairing and enhancing the safety of the boardwalk, we hope that residents will utilise the renewed passage as much as they can, as the safety of the residents is the most important aspect to us in giving back to the community.”
He also added, “Under the support of the Ministry of Education as well as the Forestry Department, we hosted five educational trips with 86 students to the Tropical Biodiversity Centre with the objective of spreading environmental awareness to the young generation.”
He shared, “We have decided to provide opportunities for students to learn about the Biodiversity in Brunei through the educational trip. We hope that the students enjoyed and gained knowledge from the programme.”
The wooden boardwalk and resting hut were repaired in the second edition of Mitsubishi Corporation’s Social Development Project. The project started on August 6 was finished by August 20.
