Remains of last victim of Malaysia landslide found in sleeping bag

ANN/THE STAR – The body of the last victim of the landslide at Father’s Organic Farm was found underneath 1.5 metres (m) of soil at the hillside some four metres from the campsite at Sector A.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Superintendent Suffian Abdullah said the body, which was discovered at about 4.15pm, was inside a sleeping bag.

“The victim is between seven and 12 years old.

“He is fully clothed but his body has started to decompose,” he told reporters at the Search and Rescue (SAR) operations centre in Batang Kali yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said one of the Bomba personnel had first noticed some sort of liquid flowing at the hillside.

“He thought it was strange so he decided to dig manually using shovels and discovered the body inside the sleeping bag,” he said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Suffian said the SAR operation was still ongoing as authorities needed to flush and investigate ground zero.

“We will make a decision on the status of the operation tomorrow.

“On behalf of all agencies, especially the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, SMART, the Armed Forces and the Civil Defence Force, as ground commander, we thank all Malaysians for all their thoughts and prayers for the SAR team to find all victims of the landslide,” he said.

A total of 80 personnel from various agencies were involved in the ninth day of the SAR operation, he said.
