‘Religious schools illuminate students, society with knowledge’

The establishment of religious schools in the country can be likened to a torch that illuminates students and society with the light of religious knowledge to strengthen faith and piety to Allah the Almighty, said Director of the Islamic Studies Department (JPI) Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar.

He said this during the launch of a special book published by JPI titled ‘Suluh Darussalam: Religious Schools in Brunei Darussalam’, containing the history of the establishment of religious schools in the Sultanate. The ceremony, held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah hall, commemorated the 68th anniversary of the implementation of formal religious education in Brunei Darussalam.

The book aims to enhance the collection of references on the history of religious education in the country and serves as a valuable resource for academics and the public. It also celebrates the JPI’s achievements in strengthening religious education.

Through formal religious schooling, the goal is to produce knowledgeable, intelligent and virtuous students. The approach is hoped to contribute to the blessings enjoyed by the people of the country.
