Religious ceremony held for success of new system

A religious ceremony was held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Education yesterday in conjunction with the integration of religious subjects into the general education system, which is set to take place today.

Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman and Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh were the guests of honour.

The religious ceremony saw prayers to Allah the Almighty for the smooth implementation of the new system. Beginning today, subjects normally taught in religious schools will be absorbed into the general education curriculum in government and private primary schools including international schools.

The integration will only involve students studying at the pre-school level to Year 3 in religious schools. These students will continue religious education in primary schools.

School hours for the new integrated system is from 7.30am to noon and 1.30pm
to 3pm.

Meanwhile, Primary 4 to Primary 6 students at religious schools will continue as usual at religious schools. – Azlan Othman
