The world will come together to celebrate the International Olympic Day with this year’s theme ‘Stay healthy, stay strong, stay active with the Olympic spirit’ on June 23.
To mark the occasion, the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) together with Department of Youth and Sport, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports will organise an Olympic Day Run 2023 to bring people of all ages and abilities to participate in physical activity.
The event aims to promote the role of sports in building a peaceful and better world through a run by engaging in physical activities, promoting Olympic values and bringing together athletes and sports enthusiasts to celebrate the power of sport.
The run will be held on the morning of June 25 at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien and is divided into seven categories based on gender and age: Category 1 is 1.8 kilometres (km) for people with disability; Category 2 is 1.8km for boys 12 years and below (U-12); Category 3 is 1.8km for girls 12 years and below (U-12); Category 4 is 3km for men age 60 and above; Category 5 is 3km for women age 60 and above; Category 6 is a 5km Men Open; and Category 7 is a 5km Women open.
Registration is free and open to the public. For every successful registration, the participant will receive a limited edition T-Shirt commemorating the run, a certificate upon completing the event and medal for coming in top 10 in each category.
Registration starts today until June 12 from 8am to 11.30am and 2pm to 4pm and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on Friday. The venue for registration is in Room 7 at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
The collection of T-shirts will be on June 22 and 24 from 8am to 11.30am and 2pm to 4pm.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, as the guest of honour is expected to present top 10 finishers of the run from each category with a medal commemorating the Olympic Day Run 2023.
