A record high of 20 smuggling attempts of alcohol were uncovered at the Kuala Lurah Control Post and 24 individuals detained in September, said the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) in a statement yesterday.
The cases also included a smuggling attempt on September 10, where a 31-year-old male was detained for attempting to bring in 720 cans and 60 bottles of alcohol through the Kuala Lurah Control Post.
Meanwhile, an operation at the waterways of Kampong Kota Batu on October 4 seized 100 cartons of cigarettes, 982 candy and 24 bottles of alcohol as well as a 15-foot boat and engine involved in the smuggling attempt.
The contraband were seized and suspects brought to the RCED for investigation.
The RCED reminded the public to comply with the law and regulations and refrain from being involved in smuggling activities or bringing in contraband. – James Kon
