Reception marks consulate opening

A reception was recently held at Radisson Hotel in the capital to mark the opening of an Austrian Consulate in Brunei Darussalam.

Some 55 guests attended the event, including Permanent Secretary (Politics and International Organisations) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pengiran Norhashimah binti Pengiran Mohd Hassan as the guest of honour.

On hand to welcome the guests, comprising government officers, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives from the private sector, was Stephen Ong, who has been appointed the Honorary Consul for the Austrian Consulate to Brunei Darussalam since 2021.

Austrian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Andreas Launer said in his speech that he looks forward to stronger ties between Austria and the Sultanate in terms of trade and business collaboration in areas such as energy efficiency, sustainability, green technology, smart traffic and medical tourism.

The Austrian envoy, along with Commercial Counsellor at the Austrian Embassy in Malaysia Reinhart Zimmermann, also held bilateral meetings with various senior government officials.
