The School Assessment Framework, a tool to provide teachers with a comprehensive approach to evaluate student’s knowledge, skills and abilities is hoped to be launched during the next School Leaders Convention (SLC), said Director of Schools Marina Chek binti Bujang yesterday.
The convention is held annually as part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to ensure coherence within the education system among its stakeholders. Yesterday marked the end of the convention for 2023.
The director noted that the keynote address on the first day by Australian Council for Educational Research Chief Executive Officer Professor Geoff Masters could be used as guidance in the finalisation of the framework.
She said the professor had noted limitations of traditional education assessment in supporting student learning, and offered alternative methods of conceptualising assessment as a process of establishing and understanding where individuals are in the long-term growth. “Suggestions and recommendations by Professor Geoff may possibly be use as guidance for the ministry to study our assessment system and how we could better serve learning,” said the director.
“We hope these inputs will be deliberated further at the SLC cluster level by school leaders and relevant departments in finalising the framework,” she added.
She also noted that the results from a survey for teachers on classroom-based assessment will be used to help guide the development of the framework.
