RBPF foil massive contraband smuggling attempt

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) foiled an attempt to smuggle a massive amount of cigarettes into the country on Thursday.

Police officers, special duty personnel and patrol personnel of Bangar Police Station under Temburong District carried out a surveillance from Pekan Bangar to the end of Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge, the RBPF said in a statement. Around 4.20am, a suspicious looking vehicle was ordered to stop at a road block.

The driver did not stop and crashed into two police patrol vehicles and a personal vehicle of a special duty police personnel before escaping the vicinity.

The police chased the vehicle and found it abandoned at the junction of Mangrove Paradise Resort in Kampong Serdang.

The driver managed to escape. RBPF personnel checked the vehicle and found several boxes containing contraband.

The vehicle was brought to the Bangar Police Station.

The 26 boxes contained 660 cartons of cigarettes.

The vehicle and the contraband were handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department.

The RBPF said it will continue to monitor all illegal activities in the country.

It urged the public to share information on suspicious activities to police hotline at 993 or the nearby police station. – James Kon
