Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry bin Haji Serudi @ Haji Seruji was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Meritorious Service Medal (Military) by President of Singapore Dr Hajah Halimah binti Yacob.
The award was presented by Singapore’s Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen to First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry at an investiture ceremony at the Ministry of Defence, Singapore.
Prior to the investiture, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry inspected the Guard of Honour followed by a courtesy call to Dr Ng Eng Hen, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Melvyn Ong, and Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Rear Admiral Aaron Beng.
First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry was conferred the award in recognition of his significant contributions towards strengthening the naval cooperation between the RSN and the RBN.
Both navies have enhanced their bilateral cooperation and interactions through official visits, courses and professional exchanges.
Their cooperation has also deepened in multiple areas, such as maritime domain awareness, maritime interoperability, and the development of confidence-building measures through multilateral platforms such as the ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting, which has yielded significant professional benefits for Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.
First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Spry, who was in Singapore from October 15 to 19, also visited SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) and RSN’s Naval Diving Unit (NDU).
