Boeing and Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) announced a USD1.5 billion deal providing the national carrier four Boeing 787-9 widebody aircraft at the Singapore Air Show yesterday.
“The forthcoming arrival of the Dreamliner 787-9 aircraft symbolises a bold step forward in our ongoing journey towards innovation and excellence. RB had been operating the Dreamliner 787-8 for the last 10 years, and with this order, it will ensure we continue with a product that our customer come to enjoy,” said RB Chief Executive Officer Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
“In our constant effort to offer unparalleled service matched with the highest safety standards to our guests, the new fleet will allow us the potential to tap into new growth areas, strengthening RB’s market appeal and provide a superior travel experience to our guests,” he said.
“The acquisition of the Dreamliner B787-9 fleet further continues our long-time partnership with Boeing through the past 50 years where we celebrated the 10th year of operating the 787 fleet in the region, last year,” he added.
“By renewing its investment in the 787 Dreamliner, RB will continue to connect Brunei with the world while offering the carrier’s signature service and comfort to passengers,” said Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing Brad McMullen.
“The 787-9 will deliver the versatility, efficiency and range that RB desires to pursue increasing air travel and tourism opportunities.”
United States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland said, “I want to congratulate Boeing and RB on their agreement, which symbolises 40 years of US-Brunei diplomatic relations and Boeing’s 50-year legacy with RB.”
The commercial partnership is mutually beneficial to both the US and Brunei economies.
RB’s fleet expansion will support Brunei’s growing aviation and tourism industries. The sale will also support production of 787s, impacting over 6,800 direct and indirect jobs in the US and over 330 suppliers in 37 states.
RB and Boeing held a commemorative signing ceremony to mark the purchase agreement of the Dreamliner 787-9 aircraft during the Singapore Airshow 2024 in Singapore yesterday.
