In 2022, Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) took a significant step forward in supporting mental health by establishing the Counselling Section, strengthened by the addition of 13 dedicated members that formed the Peer Support Team, offering motivational talks, facilitated team-building activities, and providing both individual and group counselling for Team RB.
RB’s Chief Executive Officer Captain Sabirin bin Haji Abdul Hamid highlighted the airlines’ efforts during a celebration marking World Mental Health Day 2023 themed ‘Mental Health is a universal human right’.
He said, “Alhamdulillah, at RB, we have been advocating mental health since 2012. As an airline, we have a dedicated commitment to safety and crisis management where we collaborate across departments, implementing Crisis Incident Stress Management, Psychological First Aid training with our Emergency Response Section, and post-incident debriefs following crises.
“Mental health is an essential part of our safety culture, ensuring not only the physical and mental well-being of our passengers but also that of Team RB.
“With this, I believe the Counselling Team and Peer Support will strive to carry out their roles and duties to the best of their ability to ensure the mental well-being of the staff, company, and society as a whole.”
Mental health awareness posters were launched as part of the event and will be part of RB’s internal distribution.
The mini mental health roadshow was participated by the Health Promotional Centre of the Ministry of Health; the Narcotics Control Bureau of the Prime Minster’s Office; Community Development Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Pusat Prihatin of the Ministry of Defence.
RB staff also participated in sessions and workshops including ‘Importance of Counselling Services in RB’ by Farah Farhanah; ‘Managing Stress and Conflict in Modern-day Parenthood’ by Rasyidah of Oh Baby Bean; ‘Art Theraphy Workshop’ by Cikgu Darwish from the Ministry of Education; and a yoga session as part of RB’s Friday Wellnesss.
