RB brings back ‘perfect weekend getaway’

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) announced the recommencement of its flights to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, effective May 6.

The news comes following Brunei Darussalam’s announcement of the green list countries for non-essential international travel in May.

Acting CEO Captain Sabirin Abdul Hamid said, “RB is excited to finally recommence its flights to Kota Kinabalu. As one of our top pre-pandemic destinations, the new Kota Kinabalu schedule operating on Fridays and Sundays is perfect for those seeking a weekend getaway.

“This is part of our restart plans as governments from around our network are gradually easing travel restrictions. Over time we will increase our flight frequencies and reintroduce more of our destinations back to guests.

“We look forward to returning to our whole network operations so we can once again cater to everyone’s long overdue and well-deserved holiday needs. We will be pleased to fly you to your favourite RB destination, served by our world’s leading cabin crew.”

Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu, RB guests were greeted by a welcoming troupe clad in traditional Sabahan attire, and received giveaways courtesy of the Sabah Tourism Board.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah cum Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board Datuk Joniston Bangkuai; Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment of Sabah Datuk Sr Haji Mohd Yusrie Abdullah and Sabah Tourism Board CEO Noredah Othman welcomed the arriving passengers.

“We are pleased to welcome the return of this flight. The connectivity from Brunei will definitely help with transiting international passengers, especially from routes that were previously in service from Australia, United Kingdom, Middle East and Japan. We hope that eventually the Brunei-Kota Kinabalu-Tawau flight may also be reinstated,” said Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

“Sabah Tourism is collaborating with Suria Sabah Jesselton Duty Free to provide discount vouchers to Bruneian travellers. Currently Bruneians are able to travel to Sabah by flight only and the schedule fits well for a weekend trip,” Noredah Othman added.
