    Raya open house showcases Brunei-Singapore close ties

    The Singapore High Commission in Brunei Darussalam yesterday evening hosted a Hari Raya open house at The Empire Brunei’s Indera Samudra Grand Hall.

    The open house coincided with the visit of Singapore’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education, and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Maliki bin Osman and spouse Madam Sadiah Shahal who were the guests of honour at the event.

    The visiting Singapore delegation also included Minister of State for Transport and Law Murali Pillai and spouse Dr N Gowri; Mayor of South East District Fahmi Aliman and spouse Madam Rohana; and member of Parliament for West Coast GRC Rachel Ong. Accompanying the minister and delegation were Singapore High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Laurence Bay and spouse.

    Attending the Hari Raya open house were Cabinet ministers and Legislative Council members with members of the diplomatic corps as well as prominent figures in the local community.

    During an interview, Dr Maliki bin Osman reiterated that “the long-standing, close and unique relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore is built on sincerity from all levels of society including the royal family with the leader of Singapore as well as the public.

    “Therefore it is important to foster the relationships between our youth and future generations for them to understand the foundation of the close and unique relationship that we have built between Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

    “I am confident that the next generation who will become future leaders can continue to grow the relationship between both countries to a higher level,” he added.

    “Everytime I am in Brunei, I am always happy to see the Hari Raya celebration of open houses. It shows how our relationship can further grow at a higher level.”

    Singapore’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Maliki bin Osman is in Brunei Darussalam from April 1 to 4, 2025 for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

    On the second day of Hari Raya, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received in audience the Singapore’s Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education, and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Maliki bin Osman and the Singapore delegation. – James Kon
