Raya celebrations foster closer ties

Family of Haji Daud and Hajah Timbang

The extended family of late Haji Daud bin Muhamad and late Hajah Timbang binti Amin organised a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration themed ‘We Will Always Remember Your Sacrifices’ at Sejahtera Hall, Sumbangsih Bahagia building on Saturday.

Some 360 family members attended the ceremony, which aimed to further strengthen family ties and provide an opportunity for relatives living in the Sultanate and those residing abroad to reconnect through the meet-and-greet session.

Haji Damit bin Haji Bakar (third generation) chaired the event, supported by advisers from the second generation Haji Jarai bin Haji Daud and Haji Rakawih bin Haji Daud.

The event saw the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Arwah, as well as the inauguration and official opening of late Haji Daud bin Muhamad and Hajah Timbang binti Amin foundation fund which aims to raise money to finance charitable and religious family activities. The ceremony continued with a presentation of donations to orphans, special needs members and single mothers from the families of late Haji Daud and Hajah Timbang.

The ceremony also saw a Raya song performance contest, a best dressed competition, family quiz, the most decorative stall competition, a treasure hunt and a lucky draw.

Haji Salleh and Hajah Sainah family

Generations of the family of Haji Salleh and Hajah Sainah (HSS) gathered at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Sunday.

HSS were blessed with eight children, 37 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.

Previously, family members organised the annual gathering on a rotational basis at the homes of the children, but this year, they organised it at ICC to accommodate family members from Temburong, Tutong and Belait districts.

Family members also hold other annual events such as Khatam Al-Quran during the holy month of Ramadhan and gatherings to mark the end-of-the-school season in December. – Azlan Othman

Jum Cuti Traveller Brunei Group

Jum Cuti Traveller Brunei Group held a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at a hotel on Saturday.

The event saw the singing of Raya songs. Mus Azisah binti Kula from Jum Cuti Traveller Brunei Group chaired the group, made up of mostly senior citizens and retirees, who have toured places of interest around Borneo in the past few months. – Azlan Othman

SMJA Secondary School alumni

Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SMJA) alumni from the year 1975 held a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration and Doa Kesyukuran for Dr Hajah Salwa binti Saim who celebrated her 60th birthday at an eatery in Telanai Avenue.

The event commenced with a photo session and Doa, followed with a welcoming speech from chairman Abdurahman bin Haji Nasir.

The ceremony also saw the presentation of souvenirs to Hajah Salwa and a lucky draw.

The get-together was held to enhance ties among the alumni and strengthen the spirit of unity and cooperation between the members.
