Ramadhan begins tomorrow

The country will mark the start of Ramadhan tomorrow, announced officials after the new moon was not sighted yesterday.

Officials from Syar’ie judges, Syariah Court and from State Judiciary Department at the Prime Minister’s Office as well as officers from the Survey Department at the Ministry of Development assigned to the moon-sighting at assigned locations throughout the country were unable to locate the crescent moon of Ramadhan from the DST Tower in Jerudong. Similar moon-sighting events were held at Bukit Agok and Tanjong Batu in Brunei-Muara District, Bukit Ambog in Tutong District and Bukit Lumut in Belait District.

Members of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) led by the Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman as the President of MUIB gathered at the Ministry of Religious Affairs to await the outcome of the moon-sighting.

Also present at the ministry were Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid and Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. – Azlan Othman
