A team from the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Award 2023 competition conducted a roadshow at the Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTE Belait), Kampong Mumong yesterday.

Over 30 students from Tutong and Belait districts, representatives of industries and the public participated in the workshop.

CIPTA 2023 Technical Committee members Dr Lim Pang Jen and Ir Dr Nor Asiah binti Muhamad briefed the students on the categories, rules and regulations, prizes and awards, dates, judging process, and projects submitted in previous CIPTA competitions.

The upcoming competition will feature three categories: Local, Smart Junior and ASEAN.

The ‘Local’ category comprises three sub-categories: Creating New Product, Process or Technology; Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology; and Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors.

The Smart Junior category is open to Year 7 to Year 9 students, while the ASEAN category is split into New Invention and Innovation and Young Inventor sub-categories.

Each entry will be judged based on novelty and creativity; deployment of the end product; social, economic and sustainable design considerations; and project report and presentation.

The assessment of submitted projects will be conducted in two stages beginning with the preliminary assessment, where only qualified entries will proceed to the final assessment.

The workshop continued with an open forum and the showcase of videos on previous CIPTA Award projects.

It aimed to raise awareness on the CIPTA 2023 competition, stimulate interest in students and the public to participate in the event and inspire them to create innovative products that benefit the nation and the world.

The biennial CIPTA Award, themed ‘Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals’, is set to enter its 10th edition, organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd as the main sponsor. A similar event will be held at UTB on August 6.

The competition is open to schools, technical and tertiary education institutions, government and private organisations and the public.

The registration for the competition is ongoing and the deadline is on January 9, 2023. More information can be obtained from http://conference.utb.edu.bn/cipta/.
