Active weather condition is forecasted to start this evening until Sunday with occasional heavy and thundery showers, especially over inland areas in the late afternoon and at times spreading towards coastal areas at night, according to the Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) in a press release.
The BDMD said that Brunei is currently in the transition period which is expected to last until the end of November 2023. During this period, local wind effects play an important role in governing our daily weather, the department added.
The active weather forecasted for the next few days is due to the combination of a low-pressure system over our region with the local wind effect that leads to more moist atmospheric conditions, thus enhancing the development of rain clouds, the BDMD further said.
“Wind gusts may reach up to 45 km/h during or near heavy and thundery showers. Over Brunei waters, the sea state is generally slight, below 1.0 meters.
The department advised members of the public to take precautionary actions as there is a risk of flash floods, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain and also during high tide.
The risk of landslides and fallen trees is also possible during heavy showers and gusty conditions.
Public, road users, and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory, and warning issued by BDMD and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.
