Public urged to replace faded vehicle registration plate

Azlan Othman

The vehicle registration number plate is an important identification and identity mark for every vehicle in the country. The results of the monitoring of vehicles by the Land Transport Department (JPD) of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications found that there are still a number of vehicles on the road with faded registration number plates.

JPD informed the public about the rules governing the registration number plate under the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68), Road Traffic (Identification Marks) Regulations 2008, which stated that the features of the permitted vehicle registration number plate are made of aluminium with the surface of the number and alphabet embossed. The vehicle registration number plate has a black background with numbers and letters of the identification mark on it in white and with the specified dimensions.

Driving a vehicle with a faded registration number plate or using a registration number plate with the alphabet that does not comply with the prescribed measurements is an offence and may be subject to action, according to the rules.

The public is advised to replace faded vehicle registration number plates immediately at companies recognised by the JPD. The purchase of a vehicle registration number plate is covered by warranty. To date, there are six companies recognised to make, supply and install vehicle registration number plates as well as several company representatives.

They are: BKB Sdn Bhd (BKB) and its representatives; MNP Enterprise; Kah Huat & Brothers Workshop; Roshjaya Motor Sdn Bhd; Systemair Enterprise; and Seng Hoe Huat.

Other companies include Hock Motor Company (HMC); Syarikat Shalim (B) Sdn Bhd (SSB); Bayu Ilham Motors Sdn Bhd (BIM); CKM Transportation Services (CKM); New Zen View Company (ZEN) and its representatives; Tat Lee Company; Hong Siong Hin; and Ban Lee Hua Co Sdn Bhd.

The JPD also seeks the cooperation of suppliers and their representatives to comply with the supply of vehicle registration number plates according to the quality and specifications that have been set.

Those found not complying with the rules of supply, manufacture and installation of vehicle registration number plates, if convicted, then JPD can cancel their appointment or suspend operations for the supply of vehicle registration number plates.

For information, contact JPD at Darussalam Line 123 or email awvis@jpd.gov.bn.
