Public transportation should be the way of life

Now that pay day is just around the corner, there is a sense of dread that all commercial areas will be jammed packed with cars full of shoppers who cannot wait to spend their hard-earned money.

Road rage tends to be more common during these times, with drivers impatiently overtaking other cars in the mad rush to get to shopping malls.

Perhaps it is high time to consider making public transportation a way of life.

At present, most of us drive everywhere, with the exception of the underage and the elderly.

While buses are there for those who want to forgo driving for the day, the stigma remains that public transport is reserved for the foreign workers, tourists and students.

I hope to see the authorities campaign for the public to make use of public transport.

Not only will it free commercial areas of traffic congestion, it will also support the country’s green aspirations.
