I’m an avid swimmer, who enjoys exploring swimming pools on offer in the country. As such, it had been a while since I went to the public pool near Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. So when I visited recently, I was shocked by the state of the facilities, especially the women’s locker room where used sanitary pads and stained tissues were scattered everywhere.
What is more frustrating is the fact that there was a trash can right outside the locker room. Would it kill these people to make a bit of effort to dispose of their garbage properly?
There is a Malay saying – ‘pakai sama-sama, bersih sama-sama’ (‘use it together, keep it clean together’) – that seems lost on these irresponsible individuals.
