Former students of the Sixth Form Centre (PTE) Jalan Muara, intake 1975-1978, held a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Kampong Jerudong, to mark His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, a former student of the 1975-1978 intake, attended the event.
Over 100 guests, including former students, teaching staff and Kampong Jerudong villagers were also present.
The event, held as a showcase of loyalty to His Majesty, entered its fifth year, and was intended as a special pesambah to the monarch.
The ceremony began with the handover of 15 chairs as waqaf to the mosque by the former students, presented by the minister to mosque imam Haji Muhd Amaluddin bin Haji Jamaluddin.
Following the handover, the ceremony saw the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, Qasidah Kalamun Qadim and Doa, led by Pengiran Haji Yunus bin Pengiran Haji Salleh and Haji Jasni bin Haji Abdul Latif.
This was followed by the Khatam recitation, led by imam Haji Muhd Yadiy bin Haji Yusof, Haji Yakob bin Haji Yusof and Haji Jamain bin Momin, and Takhtim, led by Haji Mohd Hairol bin Haji Sani and Muhd Hafiq Fakhry bin Haji Affendy Buang.
The ceremony continued with a Tahlil recitation, led by Haji Yakob, Doa Khatam and Doa Tahlil, led by Haji Yakob and Pengiran Haji Yunus. A Dikir Marhaban (Dikir Asyraqal) was performed by Haji Jasni, Haji Yakob and Pengiran Haji Airuddin bin Pengiran Haji Mohammad, with Selawat Tafrijiyyah led by Haji Muhd Amaluddin.
A mass recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar was led by Pengiran Haji Yunus, followed by a Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam and Doa for protection against COVID-19, led by Haji Muhd Amaluddin.
Co-secretary of the ceremony Haji Ja’afar bin Haji Ibrahim said the annual religious programme reflects the former students’ love and loyalty to His Majesty. He also shared that PTE will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with a golden jubilee celebration.
The group, known as ‘PTE Klasik Jalan Muara 1975-1978’, established in 2013, has organised Khatam Al-Quran ceremonies, religious activities and community support initiatives which included Silaturrahim Hari Raya Aidilfitri in 2019, Larian Amal Kita Prihatin Gaza last year, donation drive for the Brunei-Muara District Orphans Fund, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kampong Bengkurong, construction of mosque fund, contribution of dry food to COVID affected families, contribution of an air conditioner to Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Jalan Bebatik Kilanas, a donation to the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza and a donation of schooling materials and cash to Yayasan Anak-Anak Yatim Habibah Yaakub Centre in Miri, Sarawak. – Lyna Mohamad
