The outpatient clinic has been renamed ‘As-Syafii Clinic’ and a therapeutic garden launched for the Psychiatric Services of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in Kampong Kiarong in a bid to remove stigma.
Head of Psychiatric Services Pengiran Dr Fariza Suryani binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani said this during a ceremony marking the rename and launch yesterday.
She added, “Despite the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) efforts to raise awareness on mental health as well as reduce stigma and discrimination, there are still those who feel embarrassed and afraid to seek treatment.
“The name ‘As-Syafii’ means ‘healer’. As we understand, there are cures for mental disorders if we approach them holistically, as there are biological, psychological, social and spiritual aspects to these disorders.
“With the new name, we hope that more people would come forward and seek treatment.”
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar meanwhile officiated the ceremony.
The minister also presented certificates of appreciation to LKA Konsult Sdn Bhd, Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei and Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd for their support in the construction of the therapeutic garden and renovation of the clinic.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham also toured the facilities and planted a sapling at the therapeutic garden.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Momin; Permanent Secretary at the MoH Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH Dr Ang Swee Hui; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Management) at the MoH Dr Hajah Anie Haryani binti Haji Abdul Rahman; and Acting Director General of Health and Medical Services Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Khalifah bin Pengiran Haji Ismail were also present. – James Kon
